My love for my hair didn't start with acceptance. It started with trying to change it.

Growing up, I believed my hair was difficult, something that needed to be managed rather than understood. Like many others, relaxers became part of my routine. Every month, my mom would gently apply the cream to the new coily strands that had grown in, smoothing them down so they matched the rest.

At the time, it felt normal. It felt like care. But over time, I began to see my hair differently. I started to understand that it wasn't difficult, it was simply misunderstood. Those same coily strands I once tried to change became something I wanted to nurture, learn, and embrace.

That shift is where Coily was born.
